Alfonso Michel

He was born in the western of Mexico, in the hot city of Colima, whose sea and beaches impregnated the unconscious of Alfonso Michel and from which are fed, in essence, many of the themes of their painting. The earliest work known had modernist influences that remind us the Parisian watercolors by Alfredo Ramos Martínez, from then on, there is an enormous empty until the thirties. It is possible that the works produced in this period have been destroyed for own decision, since his first mecenas, Inés Amor, remembers the medium merit of those pictures lost. Nevertheless, in his maturity is possible to detect formal dialogues that maintained with the Open Air Schools of Painting, with the work by María Izquierdo, Rufino Tamayo and Gabriel Fernández Ledesma. But Michel prompt left the city, as corresponds to an eternal navigator, restless by discovering "las Europas", where he promised learning to paint. In the twenties he was indistinctly in Paris or in Berlin, in Florence as well as in Barcelona, nurturing his painting and expanding the horizons of his aesthetics.
