Jesús Escobedo

Only a few students at the Open Air Schools went on to have a professional career, after the disappearance of the educational programs in the mid-thirties. Escobedo was a student of Gabriel Fernández Ledesma when the latter directed, in 1927, the Popular Painting Center in San Pablo, and assimilated from his teacher a correct handling of the compositional interpretations, mostly aimed at experimentation and dealing with volumes in space. More than a landscape, this oil is a study of forms which take part in the subject of workers' children, inhabitants of suburban areas. Jesús Escobedo went on with an artistic career as an engraver and in 1945 he obtained a scholarship from the Guggenheim Foundation.
