Javier Arévalo, n. 1937

Javier Arévalo born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, April 29, 1937. In 1957 he studied at Escuela de Artes y Letras in Guadalajara and in 1961 at Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas San Carlos in Mexico City under Antonio Rodríguez Luna and Francisco Moreno Capdevila; participated in the Biennial of Engraving, Córdoba, Argentina. In 1964 travels to Concepción, Chile as part of the work group of the Mexican muralist Jorge González Camarena. In 1965, Arévalo is named director of the Sección de Artes Plásticas, Escuela de Bellas Artes, Universidad de Morelia, Michoacán. He has been teacher at Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Grabado y Escultura "La Esmeralda" in Mexico City. In 1970 wons the First Prize of Engraving in the Tokio Biennial and in 2000 the Prize Jalisco in Arts.
