Enrique Echeverría was born in Mexico City in 1923 and took up painting at an early age. He began his formal studies of painting at Arturo´s Souto workshop. He remainde there from 1943 to 1946, at the ame time attending "La Esmeralda" School of Painting and Sculpture. From 1953 to 1954, he went in a study tour to Spain, North Africa, France, England and Italy. During 1952 and 1953, he participated in several group exhibitions at the Prisse Gallery and, on his return from Europe in 1954, presented at the Proteo Gallery his first solo show. In 1955, he displayed his work at the pan American Union in Washington. Some of his paintings were included in the exhibition of Mexican painters presented at the Museum of Fine Arts in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1956. He spent all of 1965 as a guest artist in residence at Notre Dame University in Indiana. Echeverría died in 1972 in the city of Cuernavaca, Mexico because of a kidney problem.
