Echave Ibía was the second of three painters with the same name. He was married in 1623, and it is possible that he was born in about 1583 or 84. His accomplishments have had to be extracted from under the weight of those of his father, who was also a literary talent, and those of his son, Baltazar de Echave Rioja, who became a very important Baroque artist.
